Some people cut themselves if their mad or sad but then some people cut just to cut… Is self harm an addiction? And if you cut just to cut are you trying to get attention?

It probably is an addiction, but it is more stupid than most addictions, because it is actually very easy to stop. Most people probably because they are depressed, and they should see a psychologist for that.

Addictive behavior has been defined as any activity in which a person engages to escape their problems. Examples are alcohol, other drugs (legal and otherwise), gambling, sex, online gaming, reading romance novels instead of living real life, spending and shopping — the list is nearly endless. People who cut themselves get an endorphin rush, like a “runner’s high”, and so cutting certainly qualifies as addictive behavior.
